A Clean, Accessible Website for a Community-Driven Sustainability Initiative in Trim

Trim Community Cup is a returnable coffee cup scheme run by Trim Climate Action, with support from Trim Tidy Towns and Meath County Council. Michael needed a simple, welcoming website to launch the initiative, explain how it works, and get local coffee shops on board before the scheme went live.

Goal:
To build a simple, welcoming one-page website that explained the Trim Community Cup scheme to local coffee drinkers and businesses. The site needed to go live before the initiative launched — to help recruit participating cafes and show the community how the scheme would work.

Approach:
We focused on warm, eco-inspired colours — earthy tones to appeal to coffee lovers, greens to signal sustainability. The design is clean and easy to scroll. An interactive Google Map shows participating cafes. A QR code system lets coffee shops register their interest and get listed quickly.

Result:
A fast, friendly website that helped launch the Trim Community Cup initiative. Coffee shops could register via QR code. Locals could find participating cafes on the map. The scheme is still running — and helped Trim win the Tidy Towns award in October 2025.

The Client

Trim Community Cup is an initiative of Trim Climate Action, a volunteer group passionate about protecting biodiversity and reducing pollution in Trim, Co. Meath. The scheme is run in partnership with Trim Tidy Towns and supported by Meath County Council and Drogheda Credit Union. Michael Breen led the project from idea to launch, working to encourage local cafes to embrace returnable cups and help reduce disposable coffee cup waste across the town.

The Challenge

The initiative needed a website before it was even fully launched. The site had to explain a brand new concept clearly — what the cup is, how it works, and why it matters — to two different audiences at once: local coffee drinkers and the café owners needed to make the scheme work. It also needed to make it as easy as possible for businesses to sign up and get visible on the map.

Our Approach

1. Warm, Eco-Inspired Design We chose colours that feel right for the audience — warm tones for coffee lovers, greens for the environment. The design is bright, clean, and easy to scroll on any device.

2. Clear How It Works Section The scheme is simple but new. We made sure the page explained it step by step — drink, return, repeat — so anyone could understand it at a glance.

3. Interactive Google Map Participating cafes are displayed on a live interactive map. Coffee drinkers can see at a glance which shops near them are part of the scheme.

4. QR Code Integration A QR code system lets café owners register their interest and get listed on the website quickly. This made the scheme easy to promote in person before and after launch.

5. Promo Video Display The initiative's own promo video is embedded on the page to show how the scheme works in practice and build excitement in the community.

6. SEO and Accessibility The site is fully optimised for search and built to accessibility standards, so everyone in the community can use it.

The Design Solution

Trim Community Cup launched with a professional, welcoming website that helped bring local businesses on board and explain the initiative to the public. The scheme is still active in Trim. This project holds a personal meaning — I originally come from Trim, and my late mother was active in making the town green. It was a privilege to support this initiative as its designer. In October 2025, Trim won the Tidy Towns award — and the Community Cup played its part.

The Outcome

The website successfully launched the scheme and helped build awareness before cups were introduced into cafés. Since then, it has continued to support the initiative and played a part in Trim winning a Tidy Towns award in October 2025 — a testament to the community effort behind sustainability in the area. As someone originally from Trim, this project was especially meaningful. My late mother was very active in making Trim greener, so it was a privilege to support this initiative by designing its website.

"Trim Community Cup is a returnable coffee cup scheme based in Trim, Co. Meath. It is run by Trim Climate Action, supported by Trim Tidy Towns and Meath County Council. Michael Breen brought the idea to life — and needed a website ready before the scheme even launched.

We built a clean, one-page site with warm eco-inspired colours. It explains the scheme step by step, shows participating cafes on an interactive Google Map, and lets coffee shops register their interest via QR code.

The site helped recruit businesses before launch day and gave the local community a clear place to learn how the scheme works.

This project is close to my heart. I am originally from Trim, and my late mother was passionate about making the town green. It was a privilege to design this website. In October 2025, Trim won the Tidy Towns award — and the Trim Community Cup was part of that story."
